Building on privileged diplomatic and government connections in each Sovereign State of Borneo - in keeping with its "Whole of Borneo' vision" - BTRF’s mission is to advise and inform regarding new and innovative strategies, as well as dynamic funding mechanisms for protecting rainforest reserves.
Furthermore, BTRF strives to instigate constructive links and partnerships with key institutions and interests so that initiatives may serve as living models of international "‘best practice" in the field of protected area management, as well as examples of regional and international co-operation at the highest level.
BTRF is currently negotiating a series of far-reaching Collaborative and Technical Agreements with Governments and regional/local authorities throughout Borneo that will secure appropriately robust stewardship in demarcated project areas for the purposes of efficient long-term management - thereby ensuring the continuity of all projects as well as fiduciary scrutiny over funds invested by sponsors.
These unique integrated ecosystem stewardship agreements will be directed towards supporting each country’s efforts on biodiversity conservation while fostering in parallel sustainable development activities aimed at enhancing the livelihoods of local communities.
When fully realised, the project will form one of the largest protected forest zones on the planet – stretching potentially over an area almost the size of Great Britain!
